New Bat Regulation for 2012

As many of you know, rules for bats are changing for almost everyone nationwide and there has been a lot of confusion over what bats will be “legal” to use next year and which ones won’t be. The following rules apply for 8 through 12 age levels (13s & 14s have slightly different rules) when participating in the LSFBL:

All metal and alloy bats must meet the following requirements:

  • Max barrel of 2 ¼ inches
  • Max BPF of 1.15
  • Max length of 33 inches
  • Max drop of -12

Composite bates are legal BUT they must meet all the above requirements AND be labeled as being approved for Little League play.

All these changes are intended to ensure player safety and to get LSFBL rules in line with nationwide bat rule standards. They are basically identical to the rules employed by Little League.

10U-12U Speed and Agility Clinic Information:

LFBA and the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Center will be teaming up again this winter to offer Speed and Agility Clinics to all interested LFBA 10U-12U ball players and registration is now open. (11U and 12U LFBA players registered for the 2012 season are eligible to participate in these clinics. Any 10U ball player interested in trying out for the 2012 LFBA season is also eligible to participate.)

Players will have an opportunity to work out together at the Recreation Center using baseball specific stretching and conditioning exercises. Chris Pommer, LF Fitness Center Trainer, will lead these clinics using cardio and plyometric exercises and some light weights. The Speed and Agility Clinics were a tremendous success last year. The clinics are strictly optional and are offered as a means of encouraging winter conditioning for interested 10U-12U ball players.

The clinics will run twice a week on Tuesdays and Sundays and begin Tuesday, January 3 and continue through Tuesday, February 7 (no clinic on Super Bowl Sunday). The cost is $50/player for the ten sessions. Sunday sessions will be held from 5-6 pm. Tuesday sessions will be held from 4-5 pm. All classes will be held at the LF Recreation Center.

To register, please visit the LF Recreation Center’s main office or Fitness Center Desk to complete a short registration form and provide payment. Parents will need program code: 29362.

9U-10U Workout Clinics at Slammers

Calling all 9U and 10U baseball players…Lake Forest Baseball Association (LFBA) invites you to upcoming 9U and 10U indoor baseball clinics. Baseball season may seem far away, but if you’re longing to swing the bat or toss the baseball around in anticipation of next year’s baseball season, these clinics are for you.
